How To Fill Your Outdoor Terrace All Year Round

The whim of the seasons can force hotel, café and restaurant owners to be supremely reactive: updating décor, switching furniture around, moving deals and entertainment to (hopefully) keep pace with the changing crowds.

Instashade has encountered many a business owner who’s managed to adapt their outdoor space well, and often, with little additions here and there. We’re sharing some of those secrets today, prepping you for an all-season plan to draw those punters to your terrace…

Spring

It’s potentially the most moderate of all seasons, so it’s a great (and logical) place to start. If you have a terrace, patio or outdoor dining area to call your own, spring is when you should start dusting down those tables and bringing out the chairs.

This is the time when people actively look for any excuse to sit outdoors. Avoid having a uniform dining arrangement; benches, for example, allow anyone who’s just visiting for drinks to relax with friends awhile. You might also want to stand a couple of potted trees around the entrance, mimicking the flush of greenery around you.

Summer

Before it arrives, we crave it; when it gets here, the heat can be too much to bear for long. We Brits are obsessed with the faintest rays of sunlight, and we like to think we can soak up any of them limitlessly.

Some sun is good, but too much might drive people indoors. Provide the best of both worlds with our range of Café parasols, which shelter diners when they need it most. They’re incredibly simple to move and set up, and guard against UV rays, countering the harmful effects of sun exposure.

Autumn

In all likelihood, jackets and coats still won’t be much of a presence in your al fresco experience by this point. Still, it can’t hurt to cater for the colder months by putting a couple of heated lamps in strategic locations, over tables or jutting out from the side of the venue.

Hanging fairy lights up around a mezzanine, too, will achieve a distinctive glow as darkness seeps into the evening. While you’re at it, why not check out our Nova parasols? They’re able to deal with high breezes, stretching over customers with a safe sensibility that’ll encourage them to sit out for longer.

Winter

Okay, crunch time – winter can seriously destabilise your terrace’s popularity, unless you pull out the stops to get those seats filled. So consider installing a fire pit in the centre, which makes for a strong visual piece and throws plenty of heat out to surrounding tables. Add mulled wine to the menu, and you’ll be an irresistible beacon against the cold.

We understand your efforts to make an eatery sing with potential throughout the year. While it’s good to have a unifying aesthetic, shaking things up can mean there’s more than one side to your restaurant, and more than one season to look forward to.

Instashade firmly believes in the power of the parasol in this regard. We’ve mentioned them already, but they’re convenient in all weather conditions, and a generous visual augment to your current design. Have a look at Business parasols and choose whatever jumps out at you.
