How to Care for Your Instashade Parasol Over the Winter Months

Preparing Your Parasol for Winter

With the winter months drawing in and temperatures dropping, it’s a good time to think about how best to protect your Instashade Parasol during the winter months. Proper care and storage during the off-season ensures that your parasol stays in peak condition, ready to provide shade and style for many summers to come. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to care for your Instashade Parasol when it’s not in use over the winter.

Clean It

Naturally, dirt can find its way onto canopies over the years, the best way to clean your parasol is to brush off dirt and wipe off any residue with a damp sponge. You can also rinse your parasols with a hose a soft broom brush. It is important to let your parasols dry completely before the next step of closing it.

Close It

Our parasols are designed with both durability and elegance in mind, offering strength to withstand daily use and a variety of weather conditions. However, like any high-quality outdoor item, a little maintenance goes a long way toward preserving its beauty and functionality for years to come.

One simple way to protect your parasol during the winter months is by closing it when it’s not in use. This helps safeguard the canopy and mechanisms from unnecessary exposure to harsh weather, and ensures your parasol stays in pristine condition season after season.

Fold It

Once your parasol is closed and secured with a premium quality cover, it’s designed to withstand most weather conditions while remaining outdoors. However, for those in particularly windy areas, a little extra care ensures that your parasol stays in top shape for years to come. To avoid any unnecessary strain on the durable, premium canopy fabric, make sure no material is caught between the folded arms or joints when the parasol is closed.

For long-term storage, simply gather and fold the fabric neatly. Start by pulling the two closest panels out from between the arms and gently rolling them back toward the parasol frame. With one hand holding the rolled panels, fold the third panel over them to keep it secure. Then, continue folding the remaining panels in alternating directions. Once the canopy is compact, secure it with the canopy strap to keep everything neat and protected.

Rotate It

Our cantilever parasols are designed for effortless rotation and long-lasting performance. Over time, if you notice that your parasol becomes a bit stiff to rotate or starts to sound squeaky, a quick maintenance tip will keep it moving smoothly. We recommend lifting the parasol off the spigot (this is best done with two people) and carefully laying the mast down. Then, simply apply a small amount of grease to the inside rim at the base of the mast. This method ensures the grease is distributed evenly along the spigot when the mast is reattached, preventing any excess from building up at the bottom.

After applying the grease, make sure your hands are clean and lift the parasol back onto the spigot. This easy step will keep your parasol operating smoothly, ensuring it’s ready for the next season or ready to be stored for the winter months.

Accessorise it

As you pack away your garden furniture for the winter, it’s the perfect time to think ahead and consider how you can elevate your outdoor space for next year. Whether it’s adding a pratical and stylish new cover or exploring accessories like outdoor heaters and ambient lighting for cosy evening use, there are plenty of ways to enhance your parasol experience. Start planning now to make next season even more enjoyable and extend the use of your outdoor space well into the cooler evenings.
