As we creep into 2018, now is the time to think past the cold and the damp, onward to outdoor style for the rest of the year. The exterior of your home or premises may be looking for a hot new guise as the weather warms. There’s enough creativity from around the world to inspire you, if you bend an ear to the ground…
Instashade constantly keep an eye out for the latest looks in exterior design, and we’ve done our homework to anticipate the best aesthetics for 2018. Here’s what we managed to uncover for how outdoor living is set to change:
Sharp colour contrasts for furniture
Just like interior tastes, outdoor furniture is catching up to large, bold splashes of pattern and colour for seating areas. Neutral palettes are still in vogue, but only if they’re paired with something flashier. Purple, green and blue sofas are ‘in’, as are geometrically embossed cushions. These can be tempered with a wicker-based seating frame to give a naturalistic component.
Unobtrusive decking
Traditionally, decked areas stand out from the garden, isolated in one region of space. That’s becoming outdated in 2018; the latest decking setups are more seamless, functioning within various points of a grassed or yard area. Expect them to be cropping up either side of a main walkway, or sitting low on the grass beneath a hanging chair nest.
Amazing outdoor kitchens
We’re used to al fresco dining, but this year is courting a greater number of fine, purpose-built kitchen units for meals in the open air. They are astounding, with a range of cupboards, shelves, gas burners and LED switch controls to keep the whole arrangement ticking over. Also, you can pack most of them up, hiding the kitchen when it’s not being used to grill or fry a dish for guests.
Visual timber statements
If the past two years can be considered the Age of the Firepit, 2018 is placing the emphasis on what makes the flames soar to life. Woodpiles are gaining favour in the outdoor design community; both for their rustic appeal, and the fact you can order them in any shape, depending on how big the stack is. Collections of timber can be topped up as an artistic piece in their own right, even as you take some for fuel now and then.
High-flying, quality parasols
There’s no denying that parasols, either for domestic or professional use, aren’t leaving the outdoor market any time soon. Sales are strong, and their transformative aspects can’t be undervalued. An Eclipse canvas, in the right spot, can provide a chic level of shade for summertime gatherings. Others like several in the Café series guard diners, drinkers and hosts from heavy rain, letting the fun run on into the late hours.
However you decide to embrace 2018, make a resolution to pursue some of these outdoor style ideas, like the collection of parasols in the Instashade store. We’re free for more décor advice if you need it, so get in touch with your thoughts to start planning your exterior improvements.
